27th Annual Components for Military & Space Electronics Conference & Exhibition
April 30 - May 2, 2024
Four Points by Sheraton (LAX)
Los Angeles, California
The premier event focused on the design, reliability, and application of electronic components for use in both terrestrial applications for avionics, aerospace, and military, as well as commercial, civilian, and military space systems.
A conference experience focused on high quality technical talks, keynotes and panel discussions that foster maximum attendee participation/interaction and furthers our collective understanding of the technical challenges faced in our industry. Showcase the supplier base to the greatest extent possible. Educate the industry, especially young component engineers, in order to secure the future defense of our country.
CMSE 2024 KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
Carl E. McCants, Ph. D.
Special Assistant to the Director, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) for Microelectronics Policy
Talk Title:
Future Microsystems for Extreme Environments
The next major wave of microelectronics innovation is expected to come from the ability to integrate heterogeneous materials, devices, and circuits through advanced packaging, producing a tightly-coupled system that extends into the third dimension, with performance that exceeds what is available from today’s monolithic approach. These 3DHI (3-dimensional heterogeneously integrated) microsystems are anticipated to provide significant performance advantages in sensor and information processing efficiency at the edge, artificial intelligence and machine learning, secure communications, and electronics that not only tolerate, but thrive in extreme environments across the globe and beyond.

Branch Chief for Capability Assessment and Principal for Space (Logistics) Industrial Base for the Space Systems Integration Office, Space Systems Command (SSC), Los Angeles Air Force Base, CA
Talk Title:
The Critical Needs of a Resilient Industrial Base
Features of the space industrial base include a high rate of innovation, a high influx of capital, and unique manufacturing considerations such as non-recurring engineering, analysis of the reliability, and risk to launch into orbit. Dimensions of the space industrial space that require improvement include scalability, capacity, sustainability, and resiliency. The production demands for the war in Ukraine are a prime example of scalability and capacity needs The Space Industrial Base is uniquely poised to strengthen the supply chain and bring back industrial manufacturing by tapping directly into innovation from start-ups, accelerators, incubators, and science and technology collaboration with universities across the United States. As we stand amid the Great Power Competition (GPC), there is a need to incentivize with a dual approach from industry and venture capital to speed up technology innovation. The DAF must change to effectively deter in an era of Great Power Competition (GPC) and win in a conflict should deterrence fail. To confront the 2022 National Defense Strategy pacing challenge, the People's Republic of China (PRC) or an aggressive Russia, we are launching a major effort to reoptimize the DAF. To achieve a more competitive posture, the DAF is implementing major changes centered on how we develop people, generate readiness, project power and develop integrated capabilities. We must change now to be always ready; today, tomorrow, and every day.
